What does it take to get to peace?
Peace and tranquility within is one of the most precious things a person can have, and yet it can be so elusive. So how do we find peace within ourselves, permanent lasting peace?
I used to think peace was achieved by spending a quite afternoon curled up with a good book, or lazily walking through a park or lying on a beach in the sunshine. But that wasn’t real peace – a young family could come along with a screaming baby and any remnants of peace would be shattered, leaving irritation and annoyance in its wake.
If inner peace is freedom of the mind from annoyance, distraction, negativity, anxiety, obsession, etc., then that is something internal, it needs to come from within. If our external surroundings dictate our internal state, then lasting peace will always remain elusive.
Have you heard the saying “It takes a war to get to peace”? It was only when I began the inner work on myself that I gained an appreciation for what that statement actually meant.
In life there are so many difficulties we face. Life isn’t easy, it throws so many things at us; problems, stresses, tragedies…. young families with screaming babies…. And these events stir up different emotions and inner states within. We can either be carried along in the current of life’s turbulent waters, with our inner state at the mercy of what is thrown our way… or we can embrace life’s events as a means to learn about ourselves so we can change what is within – to move towards lasting inner peace.
This inner work has been such a blessing for me. Now that I am armed with the knowledge about how to go about it, I look at life completely differently – the struggles of life are now wonderful opportunities to face the darkness within myself, and by facing it I can change. I am now armed to fight that war, to get to peace.
Belzebuub recently released a video on Youtube that explains what I am talking about in more depth, how we face difficulties along the way in our spiritual journey and how we can use them to find inner peace.
He explains how the inner death of the egos, which is the removal of the different animal drives, such as anger, negativity, greed, fear, etc can lead to the awakening of the spiritual within….

Hi Gnostic Girl,
I really like your site and what you are writing about and how you are making other people think! Very good stuff.
I agree that war, or suffering, will push a person to seek peace. If we find ourselves suffering it is an opportunity to see what needs to be learned and come to understand how to create peace under any and all circumstances.
Being comfortable causes people to go to sleep. They stop paying attention and become careless with their energies. Thus stress and turmoil is often the best thing that can happen to a person. It motivates them to wake up and pay attention.
I hope that people don’t get the idea that one can wage war to create peace. That is a totally false idea. One creates peace by being peaceful. Law of Attraction is always at work. Waging war only causes suffering and pain. The one who finds peace in the midst of war is the one who learns to create peace within themself.
Mastery of self is where it is at. Use suffering to understand yourself and practice and enhance your creative skills.
Much Love,

Let me clarify what I meant when I say war… I didn’t mean to wage war in a violent sense. When I speak of war, it is a battle of the psyche, a battle for consciousness. If we are conscious, we are aware, alert, observing what is going on around us and inside of us. But then the subconscious (egos) can take over and and we lose this consciousness – we fall asleep just as you say, lost in a myriad of thoughts, emotions and negative states which waste our psychic energy. Each moment is a battle for consciousness – and the more we are conscious the stronger it grows. The more we allow the subconscious to manifest on the other hand, the stronger it grows, and here-in lies the war.
When we are conscious we can experience moments of true and profound inner peace – anything that is not peace is not of the consciousness. So when I say ‘war’, it is not intended in the violent context, and certainly not in the physical sense of aggression towards others. It is purely a metaphor for the struggle of the psyche, the struggle that leads to enlightenment.
Hi Gnostic Girl,
I like your perspective that we can embrace life’s events as a means to learn about ourselves so we can change what is within – to move towards lasting inner peace. Problems and tragedies are intensifications in our experience and sometimes we truly need them to bring growth and understanding that otherwise would take much longer to achieve. Experiences of transformative power lead to spiritual treasure.
In a gentle mood of inner peace we know that even during the most difficult of times we have the spiritual resources to handle any situation we may encounter. In the process of living in peace with ourselves and others we develop a basic poise that becomes instrumental in transcending illness, dealing with natural disasters and confronting challenging situations and relationships. Inner peace is the source of happiness.
